Many Akron drivers have asked the team at Serra Chevrolet Akron, “Where is Chevy made?”, “Where are Chevy Trucks Made?” and “Is Chevy American?” Chevy vehicles are produced with American-made parts, but there’s much more to know than that. Here’s the scoop on who makes Chevy and where they’re manufactured with the auto experts at Serra Chevrolet Akron.

Is Chevy American?

Chevy is owned by GMC, the same company that owns Cadillac, Buick, and once owned Pontiac. The headquarters is in Michigan, and GMC currently has facilities in 35 countries, including Mexico, Brazil, Canada, and Japan.

Where are Chevy Trucks Made? The Chevy Silverado and the Chevy Colorado are manufactured in North and Central America. The Chevy Colorado is only made in Wentzville, Missouri, but the Chevy Silverado is produced in the following cities:

  • Fort Wayne, Indiana
  • Springfield, Ohio
  • Flint, Michigan
  • Silao, Mexico

So, back to the question, “Is Chevy American?” Barberton drivers should know that all Chevy trucks fit the criteria, “Made in the USA,” with a minimum of 50% of each truck produced in the US or Canada. 71% of the Chevy Colorado’s components and 62% of the Chevy Silverado’s parts are manufactured in the US or Canada.

Who Makes Chevy?

The locations listed above are assembly plants, but if on your Massillon drives, you’ve wondered who makes Chevy and Chevrolet parts, Serra Chevrolet Akron has the answer. In the United States, 38 companies and GMC-owned facilities make Chevrolet parts. Any foreign-made components are primarily in electronics and some cabin spaces.

Chevy parts come from these countries:

  • Two Companies in South Korean
  • Two companies in France
  • Three companies in Canada
  • Three companies in Brazil
  • Four companies in Japan
  • Five companies in Mexico

Chevrolet also has partners in Colombia, Ecuador, Argentina, Egypt, Hungary, Thailand, and India. Therefore, Chevy’s are made in America and considered a global product.

Who Makes Chevys in China?

There are Chevys vehicles made in China, but they are only sold in the Chinese market. The Chinese auto manufacturer SAIC and GM have 50-50 ownership in several Chinese factories and produce Chevrolet, Buick, Cadillac, and other GM brands.

Because of the 27.5% import tax on Chinese-made Chevy vehicles, making Chevy trucks in China and importing them to the US is not profitable, and that’s why Chinese-made Chevy trucks are only sold in China.
